I have always been interested in empowering others. For more than 25 years, I have worked in the healthcare field as an X-ray Technologist and Mammographer. However, in 2016, my love for kickboxing and fitness, inspired me to return to school for the Personal Training Certificate Program at County College of Morris. There I studied subjects such as Foundations of Personal Training, Program Design, Nutrition, Weight Training and First Aid. After I completed the program in 2017, I also passed the American College of Sports Medicine exam to become a Nationally Certified Personal Trainer.
My fitness studies also led me to the discovery of an amazing program called the Rock Steady Boxing Program for Parkinson’s, at the Randolph, NJ YMCA. After I observed my first class, I knew that I wanted to be involved, so I signed up to volunteer. A few weeks later, I was hired to be a coach for the program, teach kickboxing to rehab addicts and co-teach a women’s boxing class.
Throughout my studies, I was fortunate to be trained by Heather Smith, a second degree Black Belt in Traditional Kickboxing. This training not only nourished my love for kickboxing, but also taught martial art fundamentals, such as proper stance, technique, mindfulness, patience, as well as cardio and strength training. Now, with the help of my supportive husband, John and the valuable advice from my amazing fitness mentors, I created Fitness Defense LLC, a fitness program that provides Traditional Kickboxing with a full body workout and teaches self defense strategies.
I am truly grateful and excited to have this awesome opportunity to inspire others and share my love for kickboxing and fitness.
